Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Touted as Britain’s First Supercar and a British Muscle Car, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage was first introduced to the world in 1977. Production of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage would continue through 1989. The convertible Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante made its debut in 1986 and also ran through 1989. The most famous of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante vehicles is probably the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante driven by James Bond (007) in the 1987 spy thriller ‘The Living Daylights’.

aston martin service in tampa flThe original Aston Martin V8 Vantage was powered by a 5.3-liter V8 that was capable of churning out 390hp at 5,800 RPM and 406 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 RPM. In 1986, the engine was updated to produce 403hp. Four Weber carburetors, high-performance camshafts, an increased compression ratio, larger intake valves and upgraded intake manifolds helped to make the Aston Martin V8 Vantage the best of its day when it came to straight-line acceleration. It could rocket from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3-seconds – that’s one-tenth-of-a-second quicker than the Ferrari Daytona of the same era.

After production of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage ceased in 1989, it was not heard of again until 2003 when the AMV8 Vantage was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show. The production version was finally introduced to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005 (for the 2006 model year) as the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The two-seater, two-door coupe featured a hatchback design for added convenience and a bonded aluminum body structure for weight reduction and stiffness. A convertible version of the V8 Vantage made its debut later in 2006. It was called the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster. Production of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage continued through 2017.

History Of Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Initially, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage was powered by a 4.3-liter quad-cam V8 engine which could generate 380hp at 7,300 RPM and 302 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,000 RPM. The engine was front mid-mounted, and the transaxle was rear mounted for superior weight distribution. Slotted Brembo brakes were standard on all Aston Martin V8 Vantage models. After 2008, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage got an engine upgrade. In house upgrades like a dry-sump lubrication system, as well as improved internals, manifolds and engine management enabled the new 4.7-liter motor to manufacture 420hp and 347 lb.-ft. of torque. Production of this version of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage continued through 2017.

Reintroduced as a 2-seater roadster, the latest edition of the (2018) Aston Martin V8 Vantage continues to be built around a bonded aluminum platform but uses a significant degree of technology from Mercedes-AMG. In fact, the 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine is a handcrafted product of the legendary AMG facility. It has the capacity to make 505hp and 505 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4-seconds. A rear mounted 8-speed ZF gearbox and electronically controlled torque vectoring differential (a first for Aston Martin) help to spur the Aston Martin V8 Vantage to a top speed of 205 mph.
