With a newly redesigned powertrain that included a 7-speed M-DCT dual-clutch transmission and twin turbocharged V8 engine, the BMW M6 Convertible (F12) was introduced during Auto Mobil International Leipzig 2012 alongside the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe Sedan. As the high-performance version of the BMW 6-Series lineup, the BMW M6 Convertible also featured improved handling, BMW Motorsport Division badging, Merino leather upholstery and a more powerful engine – as well as a carbon fiber roof. The F12 version of the BMW M6 Convertible was replaced by the BMW M8 Convertible (F91) in 2019.

BMW M6 Convertible (2012 – 2018)

Under the hood of the BMW M6 Convertible F12 (produced from 2012 through 2018) was a twin turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that could deliver 560hp and 500 lb.-ft. of torque. Utilizing direct fuel injection and an electronically actuated limited-slip rear differential, the BMW M6 Convertible could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.2-seconds and had a top speed of 155 mph (190 mph with optional M Driver’s Package). In addition to the M-DCT automatic transmission, a 6-speed manual gearbox was also available in the BMW M6 Convertible (U.S. market vehicles).

In 2014 the race-oriented Competition Package was added to the BMW M6 Convertible. The 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine was now capable of churning out 600hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque and the BMW M6 Convertible Competition could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.9-seconds. The BMW M6 Convertible Competition also featured more capable suspension, more responsive acceleration and specially designed two-tone 20-inch wheels.
