Made famous as the assigned vehicle of movie super-spy James Bond (007), the Aston Martin DB5 was a British grand touring coupe and predecessor to the Aston Martin DB9. Offered as either a convertible (Volante) or a coupe, the Aston Martin DB9 features an aluminum body and a chassis developed by the Ford Motor Company. First introduced at the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Aston Martin DB9 was produced from 2004 through 2016 with a major facelift in 2013. Key variants to the Aston Martin DB9 include the DB9 Volante, the DB9 GT, and the DB9 LM, as well as the DB9 Carbon Black, Morning Frost and Quantum Silver. Notable racing versions are the Aston Martin DBS9 and the DBRS9. The Aston Martin DB9 was succeeded by the Aston Martin DB11 which utilizes a completely redesigned body, chassis, and powertrain.

Aston Martin DB9 models were equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.9-liter V12 engine situated behind the front axle to improve weight distribution. Initially (between 2004 and 2008), the big V12 could generate 450hp at 6,000 RPM and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,000 RPM. The 2009 Aston Martin DB9 models saw an output increase to 470hp and a top speed of 190 mph. The redesign of the Aston Martin DB9 (2013 model) saw another power increase. This time the DB9 was capable of producing 510 hp and 457 lb.-ft. of torque. Zero-to-sixty acceleration time dropped to 4.5-seconds.

Transmission options include either a six-speed manual gearbox or a Touchtronic (ZF) automatic with a paddle-operated semi-automatic mode. The transmission in the Aston Martin DB9 is rear-mounted and driven by a carbon-fiber driveshaft inside of a cast aluminum torque tube.
