Porsche Service and Repair

The fastest and most expensive model in the Porsche 911 lineup, the Porsche 911 GT2 (now GT2 RS) was first introduced in 1993. Some variant of the Porsche 911 GT2 has remained in production since. The third version of the Porsche 911 GT2 was given the internal designation of Porsche 997 GT2. Significantly lighter than standard Porsche 911 Turbo models, the Porsche 997 GT2 was equipped with an upgraded twin-turbo engine, larger brakes, and a more capable suspension system. Weight reduction comes primarily from the rear-wheel drivetrain of the Porsche 997 GT2 (instead of the all-wheel drivetrain of the Porsche 911 Turbo).

Porsche 997 GT2 RS(2010-2012)

In 2010 (2011 model year) the Porsche 997 GT2 RS (Rennsport or Racing Sport in German) succeeded the Porsche 997 GT2. Even lighter and more powerful than the Porsche 997 GT2, the Porsche GT2 RS was initially conceived as a Skunkwerks (Porsche’s performance arm) effort.

Key weight reduction components include a single mass flywheel, carbon fiber hood, and front fenders, the replacement of various steel suspension parts with aluminum parts, upgraded front and rear springs with fewer coils, aluminum hub brake rotors, an optional lithium-ion battery, and lightweight carpeting (nine-pound reduction). The 3.6-liter twin-turbo engine was capable of producing 612hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque. The top speed was 205 mph and the Porsche 997 GT2 RS could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5-seconds.
