Formerly known as the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 AMG is primarily assembled in a North American plant near Vance, Alabama (with a small percentage coming out of India and Indonesian plants). The mid-size luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) was renamed in 2015.
Earlier versions (2012-2019) of the Mercedes-Benz GLE AMG (with 4MATIC) were equipped with a 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine that could churn out 518hp at 5,250 RPM and 516 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,750-5,000 RPM. With the optional AMG Performance package, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 AMG is capable of producing 549hp at 5,750 RPM and 561 lb.-ft, of torque from 2,000-5,000 RPM. Later versions of the Mercedes-Benz GLE AMG came with a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine tuned to produce even more power than the larger engine used in previous models. The latest (2021) version of the Mercedes-Benz GLE AMG utilizes a 48-volt EQ Boost hybrid system with a generator between the 4.0-liter biturbo engine and the nine-speed automatic transmission. Maximum output for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE AMG is 603hp (5,750 RPM) and 627 lb.-ft. of torque (2,500 RPM).
