Announced during the 2012 International Geneva Motor Show and officially introduced at the 2013 North American Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe (F06) has four-doors – like a sedan – but integrates the sleek lines, athletic stance and low center of gravity of a sports coupe. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe is the first sports sedan for the BMW 6-Series lineup. In October 2019, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe was replaced by a four-door fast back sedan known as the BMW M8 Gran Coupe (F93). Every BMW M6 Gran Coupe F06 was manufactured at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany (near Munich).

The BMW M6 Gran Sport is powered by an M-tuned twin turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine capable of producing 560hp (between 6,000 and 7,000 RPM) and 500 lb.-ft. of torque (from 1,500 to 5,750 RPM). Electronically controlled intake valves in an upgraded cylinder head, as well as better pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft help put the M-tuned V8 engine over the top in performance. Larger, twin scroll turbos and bigger intercoolers provide the motor with more cool, dense air for even more horsepower. The BMW M6 Gran Sport could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.2-seconds and had a top speed of 155 mph (190 mph when equipped with the optional M-Driver’s Package).

BMW M6 Gran Coupe Competition

A revised engine management strategy, sport exhaust, shorter, stiffer springs, stiffer dampers, anti-roll bars, faster steering rack (with Servotronic software), a retuned Active M rear differential, retuned M Dynamic stability control and specially designed 20-inch cast alloy wheels set the BMW M6 Gran Coupe Competition apart from other BMW M6 Gran Coupe models. BMW M6 Gran Coupe Competition owners were also treated to a gain of 15hp, making the maximum total for the 4.4-liter twin turbo mill 575hp. The optional BMW M6 Gran Coupe LCI could generate 600hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque.
