Introduced during the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the Mercedes-AMG GT is a grand touring car. Developed in conjunction with Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes-AMG GT was produced in coupe and roadster variations which include the Mercedes-AMG GT (2015–present), the Mercedes-AMG GT S (2015–present), the Mercedes-AMG GT C (2017–present), the Mercedes-AMG GT R (2017–present), the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT C Roadster (2017–present), the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe (2018–present) and the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. The Mercedes-Benz GT AMG has been assembled at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, Germany since 2014. The entire lineup received a facelift in 2017.
Mercedes-AMG GT (2015-present)
With a long, slim hood, wide wheel arches and sloping roofline, the Mercedes-AMG GT bears a similar appearance to the Mercedes-AMG SLS. In order to make the Mercedes AMG GT more lightweight than other luxury sports cars, AMG incorporates space age materials into the structural makeup of the car. Approximately 90-percent of the Mercedes-AMG GT is made of lightweight aluminum alloy. For the Mercedes-AMG GT, conventional doors were chosen over the iconic gullwing doors of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. The interior is modern yet comfortable with plush leather surfaces and a large center console.
Mercedes-AMG GT S (2015-present)
The Mercedes-AMG GT S is an even more capable version of the Mercedes-AMG GT. The engine in the Mercedes-AMG GT S is tuned to produce 515hp and 495 lb.-ft. of torque. Other upgrades include an electronically controlled rear differential, AMG Dynamic Select adaptive drivetrain with Race Mode and Race Start functions, AMG Adaptive Ride Control, AMG Performance Exhaust with dynamic flaps and a lightweight lithium-ion battery. Staggered (19-inch front/20-inch rear) AMG wheels and a keyless ignition system are also standard on the Mercedes-AMG GT S.
Power for the rear-wheel drive Mercedes-AMG GT S is derived from a twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine with a dry sump lubrication system and direct fuel injection. A 7-speed dual-clutch AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission delivers all that power to an electronically controlled limited slip differential. In independent testing, Car and Driver Magazine found that the Mercedes-AMG GT S could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.0-seconds and turn a quarter mile in 11.2-seconds at 193 mph.
