As one of the best-selling luxury sedans on the planet, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class was introduced in 1972 and has remained in production since. The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG and Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG 4MATIC entered production in 2013 and were released to consumers in 2014.
Unveiled during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG and Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG 4MATIC are among the flagship models of the Mercedes-Benz lineup. As the first AMG versions of the Mercedes-Benz S 63 stable, the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG and Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG 4MATIC featured AMG forged light alloy wheels, a lightweight lithium-ion battery, AMG Sport exhaust, an AMG high-performance composite brake system, ESP Curve Dynamic Assist, aluminum body panels and a spare tire carrier made of carbon fiber material.
Both the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG and the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG 4 MATIC were initially equipped with the handcrafted 5.5-liter biturbo AMG engine. The engine was capable of producing 577hp and 664 lb.-ft. of torque. The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4-seconds while the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG 4MATIC could achieve the same speed in just 4.0-seconds.
Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG 4MATIC
In 2017 (f0r the 2018 model year), the rear-wheel drive version of the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG was eliminated, leaving the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG 4MATIC as the sole option. The mid-cycle refresh also included an engine change. The new powerplant was a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 that could yield 603hp and 664 lb.-ft. of torque. Top speed was 155 mph or 186 mph with the AMG Performance Package. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG 4MATIC could rocket from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.5-seconds.
